New Dimensions of Scholarship Revealed through Visualizations
How does understanding the nature of migraine headaches help doctors treat them and help patients improve their own neurological health? Can an ancient Greek temple that’s been buried for the better part of two millennia be rebuilt in Chicago?
Migraines and Greek temples may be topics for different academics, but the University of Chicago scholars pursuing them contacted the same expert for help: Dale Mertes. He is Visualization Specialist for the Scholarly Technology group in IT Services, and his recent collaborations have led to several three-dimensional visualizations, from video animations and to interactive models. Mertes has been working at the university since May 2001 and holds two BFA degrees, the second of them in Media and Animation. In addition to his work at the University of Chicago, he has taught 3D animation, video production, illustration and instructional design.
